12+ years engineering robust XML & NoSQL data solutions. Specialist in MarkLogic, XQuery, and enterprise content pipelines. Based in Noida — open to remote worldwide.
I'm a Senior MarkLogic Developer with 12+ years in enterprise data engineering — specializing in XQuery, XML pipelines, NoSQL architecture, and REST API development on MarkLogic 8 through 12.
My career spans publishing giants like Elsevier and Wolters Kluwer, where I led XML teams, to the British Standards Institution (BSI) where I engineered the Smart Content Service platform — and now the American Chemical Society (CAS), where I manage an Operational Data Hub of 62M+ documents with 60% latency improvements.
I hold 5 MarkLogic certifications including MarkLogic v10 and v12, have won multiple performance awards, and am actively building MLCopilot — a VS Code extension for MarkLogic developers — as my personal side project. Outside work, I write Urdu poetry, play cricket, and explore AI tools that solve real developer problems.
From development to deployment, bug fixes to hotfixes — full delivery cycle, independently.
Recognized with the Brilliant Performance Award for critical bug resolution on production systems.
Led MarkLogic v8 to v10 upgradation — DB-level and Forest-level backup/restore included.
Building MLCopilot VS Code extension and AI-powered products for developers worldwide.
I grew up in a farming family in Etah, Uttar Pradesh — a world away from computers, servers, and software. There was no tech ecosystem around me, no engineers in the family, no roadmap. Just a quiet determination that education could change everything.
I moved to Delhi, completed my BA from Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University, earned a GNIIT certification, and later a Master's in Computer Applications from Sikkim Manipal University — all while working full-time. Every degree, every certification was earned in parallel with real work, because that's the only way I knew how to do things.
My first IT role in December 2013 was as an XML Programmer at Netsoft, converting medical and scientific content for Elsevier. Within four months I moved to Innodata, led an XML team on the Wolters Kluwer Belgium project, and won the Silver Performance Award in my first full year. Then came MarkLogic — and everything changed.
Over the next 5 years at Innodata, I engineered the Smart Content Service for the British Standards Institution — the platform that powers standards like ISO, CEN, and IEC globally. I led a zero-downtime MarkLogic v8 to v10 upgrade, built production REST pipelines, and was recognized with the Star Performer Award in 2019.
In 2022, I joined Datavid as a MarkLogic Consultant on the American Chemical Society project — the largest and most complex data challenge of my career. A 62M+ document Operational Data Hub, multiple entity schemas, CTS query optimization that cut search latency by 60%. In 2025, I was named Datavid Consultant of the Month.
Alongside all of this, I built MLCopilot — a VS Code extension for MarkLogic developers — because I was tired of having no proper tooling for XQuery. It's now live on the VS Code Marketplace. That's the kind of developer I am: if the tool doesn't exist, I build it.
HAPI & Operational Data Hub (ODH) for CAS — enterprise data management handling 62M+ documents across multiple entities (Disease, Protein, etc.) with dedicated schemas, workflows, and validation rules.
Smart Content Service platform for BSI Group — automated & manual content generation with REST exposure for real-time standards development. Integrated with ISO, CEN, CLC, IEC feeds.
Led the XML conversion team — recognized with the Silver Individual Performance Award for Q3/Q4 2015.
First professional role — converting medical and scientific content from PDF to structured XML for Elsevier.
Operational Data Hub for CAS managing 62M+ documents across multiple entities (Disease, Protein, etc.) with dedicated schemas, workflows, and validation rules. Single source of truth for operational data.
Enterprise content processing platform for the British Standards Institution — automated ingestion and REST exposure of international standards (ISO, CEN, CLC, IEC) with real-time development status tracking.
My personal side project — an AI-powered VS Code extension built from scratch for MarkLogic developers. Solves the pain I faced daily: no proper XQuery tooling. Now published on VS Code Marketplace with real users.
AI-powered content tool I'm building for my own developer brand @akbar_builds — generates MarkLogic/XQuery tips, career stories, and dev memes automatically for Instagram & Facebook.
Large-scale XML conversion pipeline for legal and financial content — schema-validated XML delivery, team leadership across full project lifecycle.
